What’s the minimum age to get a pilot license in the U.S.?

Student Pilot Certificate age 16 (14 for gliders and balloons)

Private Pilot License (PPL) - age 17

Recreational Pilot License - age 17

Commercial Pilot License - age 18

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) age 18

Is there a maximum age requirement to fly? No. There is no upper age requirement to fly as a Private or Recreational Pilot. However, commercial airline pilots must retire by age 65, according to current FAA rules.

Can older adults learn to fly? Absolutely!

Many people begin flight training in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. As long as you can pass the required medical exam, it’s never too late to start flying.

About Randon Aviation

Our Experience, Your Future

As a pilot who has trained with multiple programs — including the Aviation Program at UVU — I understand the value of high-quality instruction. That experience has driven me to build a school I’m truly proud of — one where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to become a confident, skilled pilot.

Randon Aviation is the embodiment of my lifelong passion for flying, and we’re excited to share that passion with you.

Join us for a discovery flight - it’s one of the most thrilling, rewarding experiences you’ll ever have.

Inspiring Future Aviators Since 2006

At Randon Aviation, we believe flying is more than a skill—it’s a calling. Since our founding in 2006, we’ve been committed to training skilled, confident, and safety-minded pilots who are ready to take to the skies with purpose. With flight schools located in West Jordan and St. George, Utah, we proudly serve both Northern and Southern Utah, providing industry-leading flight training that’s accessible, affordable, and tailored to every student’s ambition.

A Passion That Took Flight

“I have a deep passion for aviation, having grown up in the scenic landscapes of Utah, where I’ve cherished the outdoor experiences it offers. I call the Lehi area my home, alongside my wonderful wife and family. I thrive on outdoor activities like four-wheeling, rock climbing, backpacking, camping, horseback riding, and, above all, flying.”

From a young age, I dreamed of flying - a dream that became reality at age 19. That journey inspired the foundation of Randon Aviation, a flight school built on affordability, flexibility, fun, and safety. I knew that flight training should be accessible, modern, and taught in an environment where students feel confident and supported.

Our Mission

What type of Aircraft will I fly?

Our fleet includes Fourteen Piper Archers and Two Piper Seminole's.

At our flight school, safety and stability are our top priorities, and that’s why we train in Piper aircraft.

Piper airplanes are renowned for their predictable handling, solid construction, and forgiving flight characteristics, making them an ideal platform for student pilots. From the first lesson to advanced maneuvers, Piper’s stable design helps students build confidence while maintaining a high margin of safety.

Key reasons we choose Piper:

- Exceptional Stability

- Piper aircraft are engineered to be stable and responsive, reducing surprises in the air and helping students focus on learning, not fighting the controls.

- Proven Safety Record

- With decades of real-world flight training use, Piper planes have an outstanding safety history — trusted by hundreds of flight schools around the world.

- Forgiving Flight Characteristics

- Piper aircraft are designed to recover predictably from stalls and other training maneuvers, supporting a safe learning environment.

- Confidence-Building Design

- The low-wing configuration and sturdy construction provide a balanced, reassuring flight experience for both new and returning students.

- When students train in a Piper, they benefit from an aircraft that prioritizes safe, consistent learning — helping them progress with confidence from day one.
